American made flags: FMAA certification assures buyers the product is manufactured in the USA
FMAA certification requirements
When purchasing an American flag, many buyers prefer the product they are about to take home has actually been made in the USA. By looking for the Flag Manufacturers Association of America (FMAA) designation, Certified Made in the USA, buyers can be assured that their flags have met all FMAA requirements regarding materials and production.
Established in 2003, the Flag Manufacturers Association of America is a non-profit trade association comprised of US flag manufacturers and suppliers who are dedicated to "promoting the quality, variety and proper use of flags manufactured in the United States."
To carry the FMAA certification seal, a flag must be manufactured under the following conditions:
- The flag consists of raw material either grown or manufactured in the US
- The raw material was woven or processed into fabric in America
- The fabric was dyed or bleached in the United States
- The fabric was cut, assembled, sewn, finished and packaged in the US
- All processes were completed in United States facilities with American labor
- US law requires every flag carry a label designating its country of origin.
- Only the FMAA Certified Made in the USA label assures the flag has been made not only in the United States but that all materials used in its assembly are American made and by workers employed by US companies.
